Moorhouses 20/20 Comp

Following last weeks announcement that Heineken UK are to become the new sponsors of the Lancashire League and Worsley Cup, Burnley based Moorhouses have agreed to sponsor the 20Twenty competition. The deal will last until the end of 2014.

The competition will be known as ‘The Moorhouses Brewery Lancashire Cricket League 20/20 Competition’.

As the members at Enfield Cricket Club will already know Cask Ale was reintroduced to the Club in the mid part of the 2011 season. Plans are afoot to introduce a second pump before the start of the 2012 season with a choice of guest Ales. Which mean’s Blonde Witch, Pendle Witch Brew, Pride of Pendle & many many more will be hitting the members bar very very soon.

Second Fire Attack

A second fire in as little as six months struck Enfield again early yesterday evening. The fire, discovered by a passer by was in the old Sub- Sec’s office on the Dill Hall Lane side of the ground. Fire Crews from Accringon Fire Station, Hyndburn Road were quick to respond.

There were signs of forced entry into the building and evidence that the fire had been deliberately started. Although no structural damage has been caused, the contents of the building have been destroyed.

Police are treating the matter exteremely serious, as a wave of crime seems to be hitting the area. Only on Sunday were two youths caught trying to break entry to the ‘Nursery End’ garden centre.

Police do have a lead, and will be dealing with it in the next few days. This comes less than six months after the previous Tea Room fire.

Demolition Time!

Demolition of the Enfield Tea Room started this week. Contractors made a start pulling the 150 year old structure down on Tuesday. The building will be removed over the next few days to make way for the start of the new buildings construction. The lower Dill Hall Lane gate is planned to be removed, as is part of the wall structure in order to allow Plant access.

With all planning now accepted, it means work can commence. The target completion date is that of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, June 2nd 2012. Although the Queen may not have time in her busy schedule that weekend, we are promised of a VIP to cut the ribbon of the new building.

The Fosters Lancashire League

The Lancashire League announced a new sponsor last week. The formally know ‘Thwaites Wainwright Lancashire Cricket League’ will now be called ‘The Fosters Lancashire Cricket League’. The three year deal was signed last Thursday with the League Executives and representative of Heineken UK, Howard Cook. The deal will run from January 2012 until December 2014.

Enfield Cricket Club’s Annual General Meeting will take place on Tuesday 14th February. The meeting will start from 8pm – topics to include, 2011 finances, Club Captain’s for the forthcoming season and plans for the club for 2012.

The information can be found on the ‘STATS’ page of the site. It includes Averages, Scores and full career breakdowns for all Enfield Cricket Club professional and amateur players who have represented the club.

Tea Room Plans Submitted…

Plans have now been submitted to Hyndburn Borough Council for the re-development of the Club’s tea room following the fire back in August. Planning Permission is one of the first stages in the long process to get the build underway. The application see’s the external aesthetics of the building remaining virtually the same, with some minor changes on the inside.

Changes will comprise of a modernised kitchen, new Junior Changing facilities, Ground’s man office and improved disabled access. All contractors seeking to take part in the build have now submitted quotes. All being well the new build should be complete by the early stages of the 2012 season.
